Monel 405 (Alloy 405, UNS N04405) Wire Description
Monel 405 (Alloy 405, UNS N04405) Wire is a nickel–copper alloy containing cobalt and molybdenum. It has a higher sulphur content than Monel 400, which enhances its machinability, thereby producing a non-spalling Monel alloy. As with Monel 400, the R405 alloy is resistant to seawater and steam at elevated temperatures, as well as to salt and alkalis. It is also resistant to sulphuric acids and may be used effectively at sub‑zero temperatures.
A post‑weld heat treatment is not required for Monel R405. However, thorough cleaning following welding is essential to achieve optimal corrosion resistance, given that contamination and embrittlement may occur otherwise.
