Monel 405 (Alloy 405, UNS N04405) Plate/Sheet Description
Monel 405 (Alloy 405, UNS N04405) plate /sheet is a nickel–copper alloy containing cobalt and molybdenum. It has a higher sulphur content than Monel 400, which improves its workability to a non-stringing Monel alloy. Similar to Monel 400, the R405 alloy resists sea water and high‐temperature steam, as well as salt and alkalis. It is also resistant to sulphuric acid and can be used at sub‐zero temperatures.
A post-weld heat treatment is not required for Monel R405. However, thorough cleaning after welding is essential to maintain optimal corrosion resistance. Failure to do so may result in contamination and embrittlement.
